K-BEAUTY REVIEW: AXIS-Y – Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum

Life’s been very busy so haven’t done any K-beauty reviews in a while but there’s several products I’ve been using over the past year or so which I’m going to be reviewing on here šŸ„³

For starters, I want to introduce the Axis-y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum if you haven’t already heard of it! This serum gets a lot of attention online with great reviews so I decided to give it a go – who doesn’t want glowy skin?

The Product:

Type: Serum

Volume: 30ml

Recommended skin type: Any skin type, acne-prone, sensitive

Key Ingredients:

Niacinamide (5%)

Vitamin B3 which provides anti-aging and dark spot fading benefits. It also helps to maintain skin barrier health and has acne fighting properties.

Squalane

Occurring naturally in the sebum produced by human skin, squalane is a great moisturising ingredient which helps prevent trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) which is the natural evaporation of water from the skin. Too much water loss can cause issues such as dehydration, dryness and irritation.

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract

Used to condition, smoothe and soften the skin, this extract also contains antioxidants such as vitamin E and ferulic acid.

Full Ingredients List (cosdna):

The Packaging:

The packaging for this serum is pretty straight forward, nothing fancy to look at, almost a bit clinical looking in design. It’s functional, easy to dispense the product and dispenses a nice amount per squeeze of the pump.

The Consistency:

The serum is thin and lightweight and feels quite watery and refreshing on the skin. It takes a short while to absorb and leaves your skin feeling nicely hydrated afterwards. I actually really enjoy applying this during my skincare routine! šŸ„°

Scent-wise, there is a very faint herbal scent, but it’s barely noticeable

The Performance:

On application, the texture is lightweight and watery and seems suitable for pretty much any skin type as it is hydrating for drier skin types but also lightweight and thin for those with oilier skin types. It feels cooling which my sensitive skin enjoys.

After a few about a minute, the serum has settled down and absorbed in but there is still a hydrating feeling left behind so my skin doesn’t feel dried out or anything. Just hydrated and comfortable šŸ˜„

This is not the kind of product I have seen drastic changes from but neither did I expect that from it. I would describe its results for me as subtle but effective. Over continuous daily use for months, I notice that it gives my skin more of a subtle, hydrated (not greasy looking!) glow throughout the day and helps keep my skin from getting dry patches on the cheeks. I think it has improved the overall appearance of my skin and dark spots I used to have (PIH) have faded or gone away completely over time.

It probably won’t come as a surprise to you, but I have repurchased this serum multiple times since I first bought it. I like how it is suitable for all seasons, works well without irritating my sensitive skin and is just very convenient and easy to use during my skincare routine šŸ˜Š

Pros:

Lightweight, watery texture

Packaging is convenient and easy to dispense a reasonable amount of product

Soothing and cooling on sensitive skin

Gives skin an overall subtle glow

Helped fade dark marks left behind after spots

Cons:

Changes are subtle and take time to notice (good things to those who wait!)

Packaging design could be made a bit simpler so less writing on the front and more aesthetically pleasing

Overall Rating:

5/5

I had to share this serum on this blog since it’s one of my favourite serums of all time now (and has been for at least a year or two!). Personally, it ticks all the boxes I would want in a serum so I will be continuing to repurchase it šŸ™‚

I would recommend this serum to anyone who wants to try out niacinamide to help with reducing appearance of dark spots and improving the overall look of your skin. Though if you have sensitive skin, I would suggest maybe trying a lower percentage first in case 5% is too much for your skin!
